Opinions are a Dangerous thing: Art StylesThis isn't about narking on anyone no, infact this is just my own muses really! You could say this is a journal for ENCOURAGEMENT! *SHINES*
I find sticking to one style restrictive if you are a beginning/moderate artist! (even professionals I might say! though I can't speak for everyone)
Having a distinctive look on how your art is done and produced is understandable and its a desire to appear unique to the point some one can just SEE your work and instantly think 'Oh! that's Ten-days!' or something along the line. However, when you are trying to find who you are and what kind of art you are to produce, I recommend trying, well, a lot of different things! Different styles, mixing styles, different colouring techinque, brushes, tools, shading. Don't feel dependant on what you are already doing and don't feel pressured by people just for trying new things!
Push out of your comfort zone. Can't draw hands? don't avoid it! draw the heck out of them! (how else are you going to learn?)

It's really choppy and suuuuuper scribbly because I took like 30 seconds to draw each frame. Please fill in the gaps and gloss over the art with your wonderful imagination! I made it in Windows Movie Maker which is an absolutely evil program =o=

Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me. :la:

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Alright, so I currently find myself short on inspiration for my next piece, so I was thinking... what better than to tap into everyone else's clever brains and see what comes out?

my only criteria are: monster and male character.

example: cowboy with a bull-monster, etc.
I prefer to concept my own characters, so no fan art suggestions please!
Oh yes, and I'd avoid sci-fi. Not my bag :P

hmm how about a shaman-like man that is playing/dancing the role of a monster which is coming to life from his shadow or a nearby fire. :shrug: I hope you get some good inspiration. :D

but how about slavic mythology? it has a lot monsters in it!

there's also a Polish fairytale I know, about a dragon and a dude who stuffed a sheep with sulphur which made the dragon drink so much water he actually exploded ([link])

oh hehe... i'm curious what it will be. i'm out of ideas now, the only thing that came to my minde was an extreme and strong transvestite with a huge rose evil petrat XD. you could do lots of details.

For the moment i'm finishing up another piece (which is taking me waaaay longer than i thought), so I'm not sure which way I'll go yet. I think I'll read through the ideas and sketch each one to see what my brain lands on.

how about a knight riding a sheep =D

and on a more "serious" approach: a man sitting on a draccus head(similar to a lizard, is around 20 meters long when grown up (and around 12 meter high). It has black scales, is a herbivore(mainly eats trees), makes "fireplay"(breathing fire) for the mating procces)

nice. he would have to be a shepherd-themed knight, I think. crook-inspired sword. Something bo-peepish about his attire. And a really grim, serious war-scarred face...
